Rogaland Kunstsenter

Four times a year, Performance Art Stavanger invites a performing artist to Rogaland Kunstsenter. Together with a moderator and the audience, we dive into interesting and relevant topics within performance art and the artist's own practice. Where the conversation will lead and what happens along the way is entirely up to the participants.

Performance Café is a welcoming space where performance artists and others that are interested are invited to come together for good conversations and the exchange of experiences. This time, we have invited Viljar Irtun Moe.

Viljar Irtun Moe (born 1997) is a dancer and choreographer based in Stavanger, working as a contemporary dancer with a focus on floor work and partnering. His style combines physical strength with an emphasis on presence and personal expression, which reflects his interest in queer theory and the distortions found in expressive body language. Viljar is also committed to making art accessible and believes that dance can be performed in alternative spaces.

Viljar started dancing in Bergen and later received a CertHE in dance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (2017) and a BA in dance from the University of Stavanger, Faculty of Performing Arts (2020), with an exchange semester at Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen, Belgium (2019). In 2021, Viljar was also named "Spire of the Year" in a program for emerging artists, a collaboration between RAS and Tou Scene.

Irtun Moe has previously performed and exhibited at Hå gamle prestegård (Nærbø), Stavanger Kunstmuseum, Dansens hus (Oslo), Prøverommet (Bergen), Stavanger konserthus, Nitja Center for Contemporary Art (Lillestrøm), and Førdehuset (Førde).

Performance Café is supported by BKH, The Arts Council, and Stavanger Municipality.
